The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is a vigorous, set-sequence of traditional yoga poses coordinated with the flow of Ujjayi breath. This traditional practice founded by Patthabi Jois of Mysore, India is effective in building internal heat, strength, stamina, focus and clarity of mind. In this class, the traditional Full Primary Ashtanga Sequence will be taught along with modifications to suit individual needs. The 90 minute practice includes asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), drishti (steady gaze), and mantra or chanting. Brief discussion of the 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga will conclude the class. The room will be heated to ensure optimum benefit.

VINYASA (Ashtanga Inspired)
All "vinyasa" classes taught by Celina McMichael will be rooted in the Ashtanga Yoga lineage, therefore the class will feel similar to the Primary Series class, without the set sequence. Class will begin with a series of vigorous sun salutations and end with backbends, inversions and deep relaxation. Ujjayi breath will be taught and maintained throughout the practice. Expect to be challenged, the class will flow from posture to posture lead with full demonstration. Arm balances and inversions will be explored keeping energy levels as well as morale high throughout class. Vinyasa classes will begin with 5-10 minutes of warming breathing exercises (pranayama), and end with 5 minutes of yoga philosophy or study. The room will be heated to ensure optimum benefit.
